Monnickendam
Monnickendam is a small town, with city rights since 1356. It has a beautiful historic city centre that has been well preserved over the centuries. When you enter Monnickendam, the Great or St Nicholas Church from the 15th century towers over all.  The centre of Monnickendam is a conservation area with many historic buildings and houses from the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, often with beautifully restored memorial stone plaques. In the very centre is the Bell Tower, with the oldest playable carillon in the world.

Monnickendam City Tour
Take a fascinating walk through the streets and alleys of the old town under the guidance of an experienced city guide, and enjoy all the beauty that Monnickendam has to offer. A tour costs only €3.00 per person, with a minimum of 6 people. There are also free city walks every Friday evening, from May to September. Start at the Bell Tower at 7.30 pm.

Waterland Museum the Speeltoren (Bell Tower)
After five centuries, you can finally see inside the Bell Tower. Stand face to face with the powerful clockwork mechanism that rotates, rattles and sets a multitude of cables in motion. A highlight.
History
The History Room paints a vivid picture of bygone times. It starts with the monasteries and the monks, who took care of our area as early active residents. Check out the archaeological finds, but also the unique church books from Galilee.
The Waterland Landscape
The museum also shows us the evolution of this classic Dutch landscape. You will learn about the relationship between people and nature past and present, and about the flora and fauna of the area.

Dairy Farm and Clog Maker
For over 35 years, Henri Willig and his family have been informing and demonstrating to thousands of visitors every year, about the craft of the clog maker and about how cheese is made. A particularly popular attraction among tourists; quintessentially Dutch, informative, and there’s cheese to taste at the end. At the Jacobs Hoeve, the team is ready to welcome you every day and in authentic costume. With the help of the necessary tools and a clear explanation you will experience the cheese maker’s craft, from milk to matured Edam.
