Teambuilding sailing
Sailing together brings a breath of fresh air to the team. Mutual understanding can be reviewed and old obstacles are circumvented together. A sailing trip is therefore a teambuilding experience in itself.

A good team
Sailing is team building in itself; think of it as performing manoeuvres together. The group is split into smaller units, each of which has a specific task. The crew guide the units and evaluate the development with the entire group at the end.
Our crew are very experienced in guiding group formation.
Professional training
Training courses can also be provided by professional trainers with sailing experience. We will be happy to provide a tailor-made quotation for a training programme.
For those wishing to conduct their own training, we can offer the ship as accommodation, whether or not including the supporting role of the crew.

Success in the team can be created and modelled on board. When sailing, the correlation between cause and effect becomes immediately apparent. The manoeuvres during sailing serve as a mirror for behavioural and communication patterns within the team. This makes them excellent training situations for new forms of cooperation. All facets on board are metaphors, like the course being sailed and the ropes pulled together.
A ship is a closed system.

About us.
Original Clipper-barge
The Catharina van Mijdrecht was built in 1916 as one of the last sailing cargo ships. This beautiful and original Dedemster Klipperaak began her second career as a passenger ship in the 1980s, after a long cargo period.
On board the Catharina van Mijdrecht, it’s really all about the guests’ experience. Under expert guidance, you can help with sailing manoeuvres or even take the helm for a while. In addition, there is plenty of time for friendly get-togethers with snacks and drinks.
Representative
The traditional sailing ship is modern in comfort, clean, spacious, warm, passable and fully equipped. The interior exudes an authentic atmosphere, with lots of varnished wood and nautical details. There are plenty of seating areas and a spacious deck for sun lovers. Do bring your sun block!
The sailing ship has a daytime capacity of 40 passengers and offers 18 berths in eight rooms. Is your party bigger? No problem! We also sail together with other ships. After a well-spent day we will anchor together for a barbecue on board or, for example, a sporting activity!
Every role matters
There’s something quietly transformative about stepping onto a traditional sailing ship as a team. The moment the lines are cast off, everyday hierarchies, distractions, and routines slip away with the shore. What replaces them is a shared purpose, a living environment that responds instantly to collaboration—or the lack of it.
On a traditional sailing ship, teamwork isn’t a buzzword; it’s the wind in the sails. No single person can raise a sail, hold a course, or safely navigate changing conditions alone. Every role matters, from hauling lines to keeping watch, and success depends on trust and clear communication. Teams quickly learn that coordination beats individual brilliance. When everyone pulls together—literally—the ship moves. When they don’t, it doesn’t.
The ship itself becomes a powerful teacher. It offers immediate, honest feedback. Poor communication shows up as tangled ropes or missed maneuvers. Strong leadership reveals itself not through titles, but through calm decision-making and the ability to listen. Team members discover strengths they didn’t know they had and see their colleagues in a new light—often for the first time.
A traditional sailing vessel also strips away modern distractions. With no constant pings or screens to hide behind, people are present. Conversations deepen. Problem-solving becomes tangible and shared. The rhythm of the sea encourages reflection, while the demands of sailing foster resilience and adaptability. Challenges are real, but so are the rewards: a perfectly set sail, a smooth tack, a course held steady by collective effort.
Perhaps most importantly, sailing together creates a powerful shared story. Long after the ship returns to harbor, the memory of working side by side against the wind and waves endures. That experience translates back to the workplace as stronger relationships, renewed confidence, and a clearer understanding of what true collaboration looks like.
Teambuilding on a traditional sailing ship isn’t about escaping work—it’s about rediscovering how great work happens. When people learn to trust each other on the open sea, they bring that trust home, ready to navigate whatever waters lie ahead.
