A final farewell on the IJsselmeer

Saying ones last goodbyes to a friend, family member or other loved one can make a profound impression. The remains are returned to the elements. This farewell is of lasting significance. This is why it is important to carry out the scattering of the ashes on the IJsselmeer in a personal way, according to the last wishes of the deceased. Ashes Scattering: A special final resting place.

The ash scattering ceremony
By using the old maritime traditions that were once in force when burying at sea,  the scattering of the ashes becomes a memorable and unforgettable farewell.

Example programme for Ashes Scattering

You are welcomed on board from 10 o’clock for coffee, tea and a tasty treat.
When everyone is present, the ship sails towards the IJsselmeer with the flag at half-mast. On board, you will have the opportunity to say your goodbyes in a personal way. For example with last words and music. After this you may scatter the ashes into the IJsselmeer yourselves, or lower them into the water in a soluble urn. You may also want to leave flowers.

After this, the ship will sail a last lap around the scattering location, while we ring the ship’s bell as a final greeting. The flag is then raised to full-mast, and the ship returns to port.
You will be back in port around 12 o’clock.

The ceremony can be concluded with lunch or a drink.

It is also possible to extend the farewell with a sailing trip.
