Route planning
Adventure Sailing
From Monnickendam, a number of ports are very likely to be reached with the Catharina van Mijdrecht, and various other routes can be planned within reasonable time. Longer voyages, especially towards the Wadden Sea, are best left to chance. This only increases the adventure.
Planning a Route
On a sailing ship, we are naturally dependent on the wind and weather. Therefore, it’s almost impossible to plan a trip day by day well in advance. The wind determines how fast we can sail and thus the time we need to reach the next port. Therefore, we can only tell you with reasonable certainty on the day itself which ports are accessible and how long the trip will take. And even then, things can still turn out differently than planned. With little or no wind, we won’t get very far, although the engine can always offer a solution. Too much wind can also make sailing impossible; from wind force 7, sailing is limited or non-existent. Even the engine can’t make any difference in this case. Is there really nothing to plan? Shorter trips, day trips, weekends, and midweek breaks are particularly manageable. We’ve put together various all-inclusive packages for this purpose, providing a clear overview of the route and planned activities. All of this, of course, is subject to force majeure.
What is feasible?
The following destinations are possible for each trip. Thanks to our years of experience, we can estimate what’s feasible; under ideal conditions, there’s certainly more to do, but always subject to change. The route will be determined in consultation with the skipper. The skipper always has the final say!
