Planning your route
Expect the unexpected
On a sailing ship we are dependent on wind and weather, so it is almost impossible to plan a long trip from day to day in advance. The wind determines our speed and the time we need to reach the next port. Only on the day itself can we really tell which ports are within reach and how long the journey will take, and even then everything can turn out differently than planned. Fortunately we have a sturdy engine to help us when there is little or no wind. Too much wind (from 7 bft) and the risk becomes too great however, even with an engine. So can we actually plan anything? Of course. Shorter trips, day trips, weekends and midweek are all quite manageable. We have made up several ‘all-in’ packages with a reasonable overview of the sailing route and planned activities. All this, of course, subject to force majeure.
Adventurous sailing
From Monnickendam, our regular port of departure, a number of harbours can be reached with great certainty and most routes can be planned well in advance. For longer trips though, especially around the Waddensea, certain things are best left to chance. This will only increase the sense of adventure; you may not get to see everything you had planned for, but there will be that one gem you would not have experienced otherwise.
Feasability
The options below are possible per trip; from years of experience we can assess the possibilities with a fair amount of precision. The sailing route is determined in consultation with the skipper, and the skipper always has the final say!
